About our
history
Pickleballerz was founded by Jeff, Beverly, and Greg Raelson. Construction began in early 2020 on what would become the D.C. region’s first-ever dedicated indoor pickleball facility. On October 10, 2020, Pickleballerz officially opened its doors at 14424 Albemarle Point Place in Chantilly, Virginia — six courts, permanent nets, hard surfaces, and a single mission: give pickleball a real home in Northern Virginia.
What started as a pioneering idea quickly became a community.
February 2020 — Construction begins
October 10, 2020 — Pickleballerz officially opens
2021 — Beat The Heat tournament launched as the facility’s first annual summer tournament
2022 — Named PPR Public Facility of the Year by the Professional Pickleball Registry
2026 — Pickleballerz transitions to new ownership under the Wilson family, who continue the facility’s tradition of community-first pickleball
From the beginning, Pickleballerz was a true family project. Beverly, Greg, and Jeff Raelson poured their time, energy, and hearts into turning an empty warehouse in Chantilly into a welcoming home for pickleball. They navigated construction, a grand opening in 2020, and the uncertainty of a pandemic while always keeping the focus on community, fun, and a place where players of every level could feel like they belonged.
In January 2026, the Wilson family — Jay and Karen, along with Kyler and Lesa and their three kids — moved from West Virginia to carry that vision forward. Like the Raelsons, they are a family of doers, builders, and hosts, committed to keeping Pickleballerz proudly family‑owned and community‑driven. Today, the Raelsons’ legacy and the Wilsons’ stewardship come together in one simple goal: to make Pickleballerz a place where friendships grow, players improve, and Northern Virginia’s pickleball community always feels at home.
